Chawk's Top 40 (or so)

It's pretty funny if you look at my Napster file. I've got pretty diverse musical tastes, so you see Beach Boys next to Vanilla Ice next to Benny Goodman next to Soft Cell next to Beethoven next to "The Banana Boat Song". But I love Napster, because it's free. I've got few alternatives. Here's my Top 10 for all of my Genres. (numbers not neccessaily in the right order)

30's and 40's Swing

1. In the Mood
-Glenn Miller, the most popular swing song, Mr. Gauldin hated it.
2. Sing, Sing, Sing
-Benny Goodman, you've all heard it, but probably not all eight and a half minutes of it. The Chips Ahoy song.
3. Stardust
-Benny Goodman, the prettiest song I've heard in any genre. The clarinet solo is gorgeous.
4. It Don't Mean a Thing
-Duke Ellington, fast paced and flashy.
5. Frankie & Johnny
-Benny Goodman, easy going and pretty.
6. Jumping at the Woodside
-Count Basie, the fastest song EVER!
7. Moonlight Cocktail
-Glenn Miller, a pretty GM song.
8. Don't Be that Way
-Benny Goodman, lesserknown, I like it.
9. Take the A Train
-Duke Ellington, a classic.
10. Opus One
-Tommy Dorsey, you probably haven't heard it.

50's Doo Whop (songs with repeated intricate background parts)

1. Why Do Fools Fall in Love
-Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers, a classic song with a big range of notes, and wide changes.
2. Blue Moon
-The Marcels, me and my friends love to sing it. (Bomp, Ba-ba-bomp, Ba-Bomp Ba-Bomp-Bomp . . .)
3. Yakety Yak
-Coasters, a really fun song, with a cool base line, and sudden bassity (Don't talk back).
4. Breaking Up is Hard to Do
-Neil Sedaka, but the Pitchforks have a nice version too. Me and Brendon have been singing this since 7th grade, and it's a great song for two people (Comma comma down, dooby doo down dow-won)
5. Sherry Baby
-Four Seasons, probably my favorite band from this time, they had so many hits. This song's got a huge range of notes, and a cool background. (come come, come out to ni-ight)
6. Why Must I Be a Teenager in Love
-Dion and the Belmonts, great song, like the tune a lot.
7. Walk Like a Man
-Four Seasons, a great song, though a little ironic.
8. Lonely Teardrops
-Jackie Wilson, a unique voice, and a sweet song.
9. Duke of Earl
-Gene Chandler, uses the standard 50's baseline.
10. Calendar Girl
-Neil Sedaka, another sweet song.

Motown, 60's and early 70's

1. Build Me Up, Buttercup
-Foundations, my personal favorite song EVER.
2. If You Wanna Be Happy For The Rest Of Your Life
-Jimmy Soul, this song's hilarious, about ugly girls.
3. Another Saturday Night
-Sam Cooke, a song I often find myself singing.
4. My Girl
-The Temptations, I've heard this one a million times, but it never starts sucking.
5. Stand By Me
-B. E. King?, well it's a nice song, anyway.
6. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me
-Mel Carter, probably should have gone in the last section.
7. Ain't to Proud to Beg
-The Temptations, my favorite Temptations song.
8. Midnight Train to Georgia
-Gladys Knight and some other shmucks, I love that song.
9. Everybody Plays the Fool
-Main Ingredient, this song was written for me.
10. I Heard it Through the Grapevine
-Marvin Gaye, some other shmucks did it, but it sucked.

Oldies That I Missed

1. Hard Day's Night
-The Beatles, need I say more?
2. Earth Angel
-Buddy Holly, the Great.
3. Do You Love Me
-The Contours, a song that I wish I had the oppurtunity to sing.
4. The Way You Do the Things You Do
-The Temptations, should have been in previous section.
5. You Send Me
-Sam Cooke, the best sound Sam gets.
6. Twisting the Night Away
-Sam Cooke, my favorite "twist" oriented song.
7. Stay (Just a Little Bit Longer)
-Maurice Williams, I believe.
8. Penny Lane
-The Beatles, my favorite Beatles song.
9. Big Girls Don't Cry
Four Seasons, at their Best.
10. Lightning is Striking Again
-Four Seasons?, well, it sounds like them.

4. Since I Saw Her Standing There
-The Beatles, I'm sure they were drunk.
5. Ice Ice Baby
-Vanilla Ice, this is a fun song, and you guys know how much I hate rap.
6. Tainted Love
-Soft Cell, this song is fun because of the two pulsating beats, when you can hit things.
7. The Banana Boat Song
-Harry Belafonte, you know it from Beetlejuice. (Day-O)
8. One Week
Barenaked Ladies, the most current song in my inventory.
9. Magic Carpet Ride
-Steppenwolf, I think it's fun.
10. Can't Touch This
-M. C. Hammer, you had a feeling he was in here, didn't you?

Classics (of ALL TIME!)

1. American Pie
-Don McLean, not Madonna!
